Summary of Daily Surveys

Thank you for your participation in the Stress-related Alcohol Thoughts and Emotions Study (Project STATE) at Syracuse University!  We greatly appreciate your time and dedication to our project!

Project Description:

Project STATE aims to understand how people experience stressful events in their lives and the connections between these events and their drinking.  Our goal is to understand the emotions and thoughts that influence decisions to drink as individuals go about their daily lives.  This information could be used to help improve interventions for individuals who are trying to reduce their alcohol use.

Phase 2 – Daily Surveys:

For the next phase of this study, you will complete FOUR surveys each day for the next two weeks (i.e., 14 days) using the Metricwire/Catalyst app.

Please refer to the diagram below for a summary of these surveys:

Study Compensation:

For this phase of the study, you will be paid based on how many daily surveys you complete at the end of the two-week period.

If you complete ALL surveys, or FOUR surveys each day, you will receive $300 for your participation in this phase of the study.

If you complete less than four surveys each day, you will be paid based on the number of surveys you complete.

Here is a chart that explains the payment schedule:

First Session$60
Daily Surveys
Complete the assigned surveys (i.e., 4 surveys/day for 14 days, for a total of 56 surveys)$3/survey × 56 surveys = $168
Bonus: Complete 90% of all self-initiated (‘On Demand’) surveys (i.e., at least 12 / 14 surveys)$32
Bonus: Complete 90% of all assigned surveys (i.e., at least 50 / 56 surveys)$100
Second Session$50
Third Session$50
TOTAL POSSIBLE PAYMENT$460

You will be compensated in e-credit from your choice of one of three retailers (Amazon, Target, Walmart) after the end of the two-week period based on how many daily surveys you complete.  You will receive this credit by email after completion of this phase.

Thank you again for your participation in our study!  Feel free to contact us by email (IMPACTlab[at]syr.edu) with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

The Project STATE Team
